Rochester to Florida

Updated: Jan 2, 2019

Will and I started dating in mid February of 2017 - we worked together at a furniture company in sales at Raymour & Flanigan in Upstate NY. He would always talk about how he wanted to move to Florida to be close to his grandma down here. After dating for about 5 months we got the idea of trying it out & making the big move down here! couple months went by and we were officially living in Florida!

Leading up to the move I was beyond excited to get out of my hometown and start our new life in sunshine all year round! I donated almost all my winter clothes that my friends didn't end up taking and got rid of a lot of my things since we decided to just drive our cars down here and not rent a u-haul! Luckily I still lived with my parents so unlike will I didn't have to sell any furniture (or a boat.. sorry will haha). When the day finally came to move... not gonna lie.. I cried the entire way from Rochester to Florida. haha & then I cried a bit more. I wasn't sad about moving down here and starting this amazing adventure with him but I was mostly sad about leaving my great group of very close friends I had & my family! I was so comfortable in my little Rochester bubble that I barely ever left! My biggest worry was how does someone make friends in a completely new state with absolutely zero friend connections!?! - also we work crazy hours & schedules being in sales.---Well let me tell you working in a state where the largest age group is 64-70 yrs old (yes I looked that fact up ) it has been the hardest thing EVER!! For the career choice will and I both are in, most people at work are typically old enough to be my parent or my grandparent haha so finding friends has been the ultimate struggle!

Luckily along the way of switching companies and finding where we belong I was blessed to meet the couple good friends that I have made! One happens to be my neighbor in my apartment complex which is very convenient for when I don't want to run to the store alone for random things! Others I have surprisingly made at work! It did take me a year & a half to meet these people but what a game changer its been! Its made this life transition a whole lot easier for sure! My advice for anyone moving to a new state where you don't know a single person is to give it time! Like I stated before ... it took me almost 2 years to meet friends!

Although I cried a lot the first year or so through this entire transition, I am soooo glad I did this. I've learned so much about myself and my relationship with Will throughout this whole experience and I wouldn't change a thing about it!

Have you ever been through something like this? - let me know the comments below ! :)
